Organic Waste

Organic waste from food production, agriculture and households is supplied to the biogas plant. Organic waste may include animal manure, residues from agricultural production and residues from treatment plants. The household waste must be separated at source before it is suitable for biogas production.

The Biogas Plant

In the biogas plant, the waste products, also known as biomasses, are pumped into the oxygen-free reactors where they are heated. In the reactor a biological process takes place in which the bacteria produce biogas.

Electricity

Biogas can be used to power a gas engine which powers an electric generator.

Heating

Biogas can be used to power a gas engine in a CHP plant, which transforms the biogas into energy in the form of heat.

Biogas and Natural Gas

The biogas is cleaned and can be distributed through the nationwide natural gas networks or used as fuel in the transport sector.

Fertilizer

The degassed biomass is used as a fertilizer and soil improver in the fields. The degassed biomass contains all the original nutrients introduced alongside the organic waste.
